Lake Kitchawan Conservation Committee
who we are
Lake Kitchawan Conservation Committee (LKCC ) is a 501(c)4 non-profit dedicated to the preservation and maintenance of the 106-acre Lake Kitchawan, its lagoon system and surrounding wetland areas.
Our group began life over 17 years ago as an informal collection of residents who noticed the deteriorating condition of the lake and met in one-another’s living rooms to talk about how lily pads and other invasive weeds were impeding both the appearance and enjoyment of the lake. Our early activities focused on learning about the care and improvement of our freshwater lake and debating feasible improvements.
We graduated from talking to doing when we secured a $25,000 grant in 2007 from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation through the Town of Pound Ridge to fund the first professional study of Lake Kitchawan. The study led to development of a working plan to maintain and improve water quality and limit the encroachment of invasive weeds, which were impacting the health, beauty, navigability and overall enjoyment of the lake and lagoons.
Protecting and treating our lake system is an ongoing effort. We are proud that LKCC is supported by the Lake Kitchawan community to address these issues.
